The Curiosity Files ~ Puffer Fish!
There are currently 9 different Curiosity Files available for download from The Old Schoolhouse. We had the privilege of giving one a try as part of The Homeschool Crew, and we chose the Puffer Fish!
Last summer we took our very first family vacation to the beach! While we were there we visited an aquarium, and we all loved it! One kind of sea creature we saw there were some really big porcupine puffer fish. The kids were fascinated by them! So of course I chose this file to be our first adventure with The Curiosity Files. They liked it so much we will be trying out some of the other titles they are interested in too.
This is Professor Ana Lyze (Love that name!) Expert in Outlandish Oddities. Each title in the series is all about some rare part of God's creation, the goal being to educate children about subjects they would never find otherwise, to get them thinking and give their mind some exercise.
Along with the lesson, called "Everything You Never Wanted to Know About the Puffer Fish" , there are worksheets and activities to further enrich the study. Some of the subjects covered include math activities, handwriting (copywork), spelling, vocabulary, writing, geography, and art including making a model of a puffer fish! On the last pages there are lots of links to other sites where even more information and pictures are available so you can go as deep and your kids want to go.
I promised to show off my kids' artwork they did during the week, so here are their coloring pages...
We all enjoyed this little break from the norm in our school routine. The kids got to learn about a subject they were really interested in and had fun at the same time. I enjoyed the ease of use! I printed the pages I wanted to use in their "curiosity file" and then let them go at it after we read all the fun facts together. I hope we get to visit the aquarium again this coming summer. This time they will know more about puffers, and might just teach those tour guides a thing or two!
Puffer Fish is available as an instant download for just $6.95! You can view the other titles and bundle packs available HERE. For bundle packs there are 2 options available, all 9 on CD for $49.00 or as a download for $46.00.
The recommended age range is 8-13 years, but the content can be adjusted for younger or older kids.
