Adventures in Beekeeping

Earlier this spring my husband decided he wanted to be a beekeeper. I am pretty scared of bees myself, so I don't go near them. So far the bees have been no problem. Until today.....

See all those tiny little dots in the air? That is thousands of bees...swarming!

Look a little closer. Its my nightmare come to life! My whole yard sounds like a buzzing beehive, EEK! Can you see them starting to pile up on that little apple tree?

After they all landed on the little tree, the poor thing was bowing over from the weight of the bees! My husband got out there ASAP with a new hive to try and get them back inside. A local bee expert told him they left because there wasn't enough room in the old hive after all the baby bees hatched recently.

He scraped the bees off with a brush and his hand. Boy is he a brave man or what? I did gather up enough courage to take these up close pictures after the bees stopped flying around so much. I still used the zoom lens though! I cant believe how many bees there were! See the hives in the background? They are still full!

Of course I had to get a video of the bees climbing back into a new hive. It was actually very cool to watch!

We wont know until tomorrow if the bees will stay in the new hive or not. We sure hope so.

Meet Curiosity ~ Fridge Inspector

 photo 0602215728_zpse877aca0.jpg

Meet Curiosity. Shes a really fun kitten! Out of all the kittens we have (13 of them) we like her best. Im so glad a good friend of ours is adopting her so we can visit! Im wondering what they will name her.

While putting away groceries the other night she decided to check out just what was in the big black box the big people open so much. That's as far as she went, must not have been any fishy smells in there :)

Im gonna miss this one, but she is going to the best possible home she could go to, with a sweet little boy to chase and cuddle her at night. She loooves to snuggle up and sleep right on top of anyone who sits still long enough.

Here she is with her mama, Blessing.

She has a lot of cousins to play with, and nap with. The solid orange kitty on top is her sister.

I'm going to miss all of them!

Baby Kittens!

 photo 0421152124_zps049f5f25.jpg

It has been over 10 years since we have had a birth of kittens at our house. I was hoping to catch the birth happening so the kids could watch, but we found them on Sunday when we got home from church.

They were born in a box my husband made for them, but it was so cold outside that day. We first found one that had already froze to death. It was very sad! The other two were very close to death. We brought them all in immediately, and I called my Mom to ask what to do to warm them up. She told me to put them down my shirt. So I did!

For two hours I kept them there. They were SO cold, I could feel the cold through the blanket I wrapped them in at first. They started moving around a little, and a few tiny mews were made. My 4 year old never left my side, she was so concerned about them. She fell asleep on me waiting for these baby kittens to be okay.

It is now 4 days later, and those kittens are doing great! Blessing is a good mommy, they are nursing and growing! I am so thankful we came home when we did. Often we stop by the store or library on the way home, it could have been too late for all of them if we had. Praise the Lord!
