Are you a book lover? What about your children?
My kids love to be read to, any time of day. Our house is full of books. In fact every single room in our house has books in it, except the half bath. Six rooms have bookshelves full of books in them. You can have a library worth of books in your home, but they don't do anyone any good unless you actually read them.
Every parent is told how valuable it is to read to their children, every day if possible, but making the time to do it can be hard sometimes. When we do find some time to read, what should we be reading?
Read for the Heart is a book about books. There are other books out there about books, so what makes this one special?
First of all, this book was written by a homeschool graduate who grew up in a reading family. Sarah Clarkson tells us from experience why her parents made reading aloud a priority for the whole family. She tells us how they made it work, with tips for kids who are not the "sit still and listen" type. She also tells us what books are the best, introducing authors that have written truly excellent literature, and illustrators that have given life to these stories through beautiful artwork and drawings.
As I read through the book I really liked reading about her adventures with books throughout her life. I felt like I missed out on something truly great by not being a part of her family. I realized that this is a gift that I want to give my own children. It is never too late to start the tradition of family reading together.
I enjoyed reading this book so much that I read it again, I don't do that very often. As I read through the lists of books I was pleased to see we already have quite a few of them here on our shelves. We started reading the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder a couple of years ago, but somehow along the way we just stopped. I was inspired to pick it back up again. There are so many great books to choose from, in many different categories.
