Learning math skills can be fun! This set of cards from c3pla gives plenty of ideas for using games to teach your young children about using math in everyday ways, using things you already have around the house, such as breakfast cereal, socks, pennies, buttons, etc. Use cups and spoons in the kitchen to play measuring games , and there are lots of free printable manipulatives to use on the c3pla.com website. Just download, print, and tape.
For kids, there are also free music downloads and they can enroll in the Hall Of Fame. Parents can print out personalized certificates of excellence for all three stages as your child completes each one.
I have done a few of these activities with my kids (without telling them it was a planned activity) and they did enjoy them. I simply started doing something and they joined in. I could see the wheels turning in my 5 year olds head a couple of times! they liked the games involving food and measuring the best so far.
When I first saw the caterpillar on the cover I thought it was a preschool level, but thats not the case. Further along in the cards there are activities for skip counting, grids, even multiplication and division. The activities are simple to use and do not require a lot of thought and preparation. I like that!
The cards are sturdy and laminated, and are on a ring which makes it easy to remove a card if you want to.
Carlito C. Caterpillar's MathHouse Game Cards cost $23.95 and that includes free shipping.
