VocabularySpellingCity.com is such a blessing for teachers, parents, and students. If you have a child who needs to work on spelling or vocabulary skills I highly recommend this site!
There are two types of memberships, a basic version, which is free, and a premium version which starts at $29.99 per year for a family with up to 5 students and $49.95 for classrooms with up to 25 students. Take a look at the benefits offered by each type of membership.
When I first started using this website I was mainly interested in using the spelling features. I must say I have been pleasantly surprised by all the other benefits as well. My children WANT to use this site and are EAGER to practice their spelling, play games with their words and as a bonus they get practice with the definitions of words and using them in sentences. I can tell a real difference since we began using Vocabulary Spelling City just a few weeks ago.
Each week I make a list with the words from the spelling program we use. We have the premium version so I can save these lists to use over again if needed. Later on when my kindergartner gets to a second grade level the lists will already be there for her, how convenient! This is the best part of having a premium membership for me personally.
Each of my older kids have their own login, I can go to my teacher toolbox section to see how they did, and what words they are having problems with. I can personalize lessons just for them using only the words they need more practice with.
The kids love the freedom of being able to log on and complete their work without me having to help. I actually use it as a reward for getting their other schoolwork done in a timely manner. The first one to finish gets to do spelling first!
I love that they can use any computer to use Vocabulary Spelling City. If we are at the library or grandmas house they can work on their lessons there too. No hauling books or worksheets around! I believe the cost of the premium membership is well worth all the benefits.
Take a look at all the different teaching resources offered! The forum is full of helpful information including other teachers sharing their lists, answers to frequently asked questions, technical help and a place just for fun.
I encourage you to give the free version a trial, I think you and your kids will like it very much and may want to upgrade to the premium version after you see what all this site has to offer!

This is a great review (I love the reviews that are meaty and give actual feedback, rather than just a "we liked it" or "we didn't like it")! We are also fans of SpellingCity here, and are very happy with our premium membership. My youngest is 7 and his least favorite subject EVER is spelling, lol. Before we found VSC, our weekly spelling lists made all of us miserable. Since he has been using the site, not only have I seen a remarkable improvement (not just in spelling, but in reading as well!), but I have been met with much less resistance when it comes to spelling. :)
