Things to do while waiting for answers...

It seems like we are always waiting for something in this life. Some kinds of waiting are joyful, like when you are expecting a baby or grandchild to arrive. Sometimes the waiting is harder, like when waiting for results of a health test. Waiting for Spring seems to take forever for some. Others dislike warmer weather and look forward to Fall approaching.

We are in a season of waiting right now, and I hope to share a wonderful announcement with you soon. But if not, that is OK too. We want God's will to be done. Here is what I do when I'm waiting and start to feel the anxiety and start becoming impatient.

Pray

Don't pray for patience! (If you ever have you know what I mean!) Pray for God's will. I think of how God must feel while waiting for a world He created to turn to Him and away from sin. He's been doing that forever. For. Ev. Er. That sure does make my waiting seem like nothing in comparison. But I know that God desires to give His children good gifts, and only He knows what the future holds. Perhaps what I am wanting isn't what is really best for me? Perhaps it just isn't the right time? Or perhaps it fits in perfectly with His plan for me.

Philippians 4:6

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

Occupy yourself

Time always goes by more quickly when you are having fun or busy right?   The thing you are waiting for is still there of course, but you aren't focused on it constantly when you are doing something else.

Just getting out for a walk can do wonders to refresh your mind and spirit.
Do a project with your kids, grandchildren, or another family member or friend.
Read that book you keep telling yourself you dont have time for. A great story can really occupy your mind. Even better, read that book to someone else!
Visit an elderly friend or family member. Find out if they need some help with something.
Write a letter. A real one. On paper! Decorate it with cheery stickers and send it to someone just to brighten their day. PS- Kids LOVE getting mail too!

Clean out a closet

You just wrinkled up your nose and said "Why would I want to do that?" didn't you? Well it doesn't have to be an actual closet. Think metaphorically here for a minute.  Sometimes the thing we are waiting for requires a bit of preparation right? If you are waiting for someone to come visit you prepare a room for them to sleep in. If you are waiting to move into a new home you unload some things you no longer need. You get the picture. Do something that needs to be done in order to make your future days easier.

Let yourself rest

Resting can be hard, especially when you have too much on your mind. Do things that make you relax, whatever that may be. Take a warm bath, drink hot tea, watch a funny movie, have some ice cream. But most of all rest in assurance that God is there and has a great plan in store just for you!

Psalm 116:7

Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.

And He WILL deal bountifully with thee, in His own time.

Blessings!
