Talking Fingers Inc
We were recently blessed with the opportunity to review a great reading, writing, and typing program called Read, Write, & Type from Talking Fingers Inc. My 7 year old has been REALLY enjoying playing with this program, I don't think he realizes its educational haha! He would play for half the day if I would let him. Every time he gets a "trophy" everyone has to come and look. My 6 year old has also been enjoying it, but she mostly likes to watch him play. She is not into games as much as he is. She yells out the answers from behind and gets on his nerves pretty quickly!
The program is easy to use, just log in and play. The program teaches reading (phonics), writing, typing skills, vocabulary, punctuation, and spelling all at once, in a fun game format. Kids use their mouth, ears, eyes, and fingers for a multisensory approach to learning. I would recommend it for beginning readers, kids who are having difficulty with reading, and also for kids learning English as a second language. The recommended age is 6 to 9 years old, but if your child is older and struggling I believe it could still help. The games are geared towards younger kids, so an older child might find them baby-ish or boring.
An online version is available for just $35.00 for one student, and discounts are available if you need the program for more than 1 child. You can try a free demo here to see what the program is like, and while you are there join the mailing list and get 20% off if you decide to purchase the program. There is also a CD home version for $79.00. Click here to read about what is included. There are 18 downloadable books to go along with the lessons also!
