Monki See

Monki See is a program designed to teach babies age 3 months to 2 years to read. We received  2 of their products to try out with our 2 year old.....



Baby's First Words DVD ~ This 30 minute DVD has cute monkey puppets and cartoon character versions of Skip and Howie, learning about parts of the body. Words are on the screen and are repeated often to help children learn the word by sight. It is recommended to have them watch the video every day for a month. A slide show review is also included.

Know Your Monkey Book ~ This book, called a See and Say Story, also have the cute monkeys inside, which my 2 youngest daughter just loved! The pages are sturdy and colorful.

What we thought.....

My 2 year old and 4 year old enjoyed watching the DVD, and reading the book. After a few days my 4 year old lost interest, but it was not designed for her age group. My 2 year old repeated everything that was said on the video, she has always been a very verbal child, talked early and is very good at expressing herself. However, this is not how I want her to learn to read. Sight reading is not true reading in my opinion. I want her to learn to read by phonics like my other children did, so she can sound out all words she comes across, not just those she has memorized.

I am not a huge fan of using DVD's to teach either. They love to be read to, so the book was enjoyed thoroughly. That being said, we do use DVD's occasionally, and she does enjoy "talking with the monkeys" and has asked to watch Kip and Owie (Skip and Howie) several times.

If you are interested in teaching your little one to read at an early age, this program might suit you very well. It is cute and fun, and interactive.
