You are NOT The Queen of Sheba!

When I was little there were several things my mother said to me that I swore up and down I'd never say to my kids when I grew up.  I am sure that they say the same things about me now too! I find myself saying some of those things as a mother now though. One of those things my mother used to say when I balked at doing chores or thought the world should revolve around me was, "You are NOT the Queen of Sheba!"

I didn't know who that queen was, or what exactly she had to do with me, but I didn't like to be told that nonetheless. From reading fairy tales I assumed all queens were waited on hand and foot, and they had nothing better to do all day than look beautiful. That sounded good to me!

Thirty years and 8 children later, I have often looked back at those days of my girlhood and sighed. I never became a beautiful queen! No one waits on me, quite the opposite, I am nearly always waiting on someone else. What exactly is a bon-bon? I am not lying around eating them thats for sure! I sometimes feel sorry for myself.

I know that is a terrible attitude to have! Since becoming a Child of God, I know that I truly am a princess, for I am a child of The King! I have also been convicted about my attitude because I have three young daughters and a grown daughter who watch me every day and learn from my actions. What a humbling thought!

Eternal Encouragement Magazine has been a great help to me the past couple of years with being a better wife and mother. I recently had the privilege of listening to two of Lorrie Flem's MP3 recordings that have really spoke to my heart and encouraged me to try even harder at my job.

In Keys to a Queenly Castle, Lorrie firmly but gently reminded me that I am indeed a Queen, of my household! God ordained me to be a wife and mother, and the verse found in Matthew 23 kept coming to mind as I listened.

The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12

Jesus was the greatest among us, and yet He came to serve us. We did not deserve it, and yet He did it out of his great love for us. I love Jesus, and I want to be like Him! I want my children to know what Jesus is like, and what better way to learn that than by example. My children need to see Jesus in me, I need to serve my household because I am their Queen!

In Attitude Adjustments, Lorrie talks about the many ways we can change our own attitudes and change our entire family as a result. She has come up with a complete alphabet from A-Z of ways to have a better attitude. Its a very encouraging talk!

  2. No bon bons here, either! But I do appreciate that you are also teaching your daughters that they aren't the Queen of Sheba as well. Nice review!

  3. "Keys to a Queenly Castle," really ministered to me, too. A great exchange from not being the Queen of Sheba to actually being the daughter of the King!!

Oh, a bonbon is a chocolate covered candy...not that I get to eat many! ;-)
