The World's Greatest Stories

Photobucket

Do your kids enjoy listening to bible stories on CD or cassette tape? Mine do, they love listening to all stories. I have noticed in the past however that not all bible stories are the same. Things are added in, or left out, or perhaps just told in a monotonous tone without animated voices and my kids did not really listen to the story at all.

The Worlds Greatest Stories are different. The biggest difference is that these stories are told straight from the bible, in either the King James or the New International Version. No added words, none taken away. Awesome! I was interested in hearing them myself and was excited about reviewing a CD with my kids.

We chose the New International Version, I thought it might make it a bit easier for my kids to understand. Of course I got out my bible just to see if it really was word for word, and it is! My 8 year old son even read along for a little while. His interest was caught up very quickly though and he set the Bible aside so he could just listen.

The Sunday after our CD arrived we had the perfect opportunity to try it out. I hit a deer with our family van, and then my husbands work jeep sprung an oil leak, so we had no way to get to church that day. So we snuggled up in bed together and listened to Volume 1 - The Prophets. The stories we heard were....

The Blazing Furnace (Daniel 3)
The Handwriting on the Wall (Daniel 5)
Daniel in the Lion's Den (Daniel 6)
Elijah and the Prophets of Baal (1 Kings 17-18)
The Prophecy of Jonah (The Book of Jonah)

You can listen to audio clips of each volume by clicking here. There are currently 6 volumes in all, including The Prophets (what we reviewed), The Life of Christ, Beginnings, Joshua and Esther, Joseph and His Brothers, and Defeating Giants.

Each CD is just $7.95, I thought it was a very generous price considering how much time it must have taken to produce such high quality narratives. Each story is told with different voices for each character, the words are dramatized to show emotion and excitement. George W. Sarris has done an incredible job of narrating! My son said he likes to close his eyes and imagine the story playing out in his mind. He said it was the next best thing to being there, and knowing these stories were true and not just something someone imagined, made it all the more interesting.

My two year old sat through almost the entire CD without squirming, she left once to go potty and came back to hear more. Each CD is about an hour long. When we have a vehicle again I plan on keeping this CD in it so we can listen while we drive. We are 30 minutes from anything where we live so it's the perfect length. I hope to purchase the rest of the set soon!

You can purchase The World's Greatest Stories from http://www.worldsgreateststories.com for just $7.95 each in either KJV or NIV. If you order 6 or more items shipping is free. This would be an awesome gift for kids of all ages, but they were created especially for ages 4-12. Go listen to those audio clips and see what I mean, I highly recommend them!
